Canoeing Trips on the Xanthos River

When staying in Kalkan, one of the best days out you can have is a fun canoeing trip on the River Xanthos to Patara Beach. No experience necessary!
Whether you are an accomplished canoeist or if you’ve never been in a canoe before this a great day out for all the family!
The day starts when you are collected from your accommodation and driven the 20 minute journey to the village of Kinik. Here you will be met by your instructors/guides for the day.
You will be kitted out with life jackets and given a brief instruction on how to paddle the two person canoes, before setting off on the journey.
The first part of the journey sees you travel down the Xanthos for a couple of kilometres, before stopping to have a mud bath (optional). The mud is said to have properties that leave the skin looking 10 years younger … but this is not guaranteed! It is certainly a fun experience, and worth a try!
After cleaning the mud off in the cool water of the river, the canoeing begins again before stopping another few kilometres down the river for drinks and some refreshing watermelon.
When you are revived the main part of the canoeing starts before you stop for lunch by the river bank. In the shade of the eucalyptus trees, you will be served barbequed chicken, rice, salads and bread … and there is time for a siesta before the last stage of canoeing.
This last stage is the shortest leg of the day, and you will soon be at the mouth of the river where it meets the sea at Patara. Here you will have about 45 minutes to relax or have a swim in the sea, before tea and coffee – and then the return transfer back to your accommodation.
NOTE
The price of the trip includes return transfers from/to your accommodation, melon, lunch and tea & coffee at Patara. Beer and soft drinks will be available to purchase throughout the day from the instructors. You also have the option to purchase a DVD full of photos and video of your day out.
Children (under 14/15 ages) will need to share a canoe with an adult. Life jackets are to be worn by everyone.
You should take sun cream, a hat, water, and a beach towel. If you wish to swim at Patara Beach you will also need to bring your swim wear. Cameras, mobile phones, wallets and purses will be kept in a sealed container on the guide boat so that you can have safe access to them during all rest stops.
