Tours and day trips around Kalkan

Whilst Kalkan is the ideal place to sit back and relax by the poolside at your accommodation, for those who want to get out and about, there is so much to see and do in this area.

With all the tours you will be collected and returned to your accommodation – and will have an English speaking guide throughout the day to ensure that you get the most out of your trip.

SAKLIKENT & TLOS

This tour brings you history, scenery and culture ... all in one. Firstly, you get to explore the ruins of the capital of ancient Lycia – Tlos – with its acropolis, stadium, theatre and rock tombs.

Tlos was the home of the mythical winged horse, Pegasus, and his image is carved in to one of tombs.

The tour then moves on to the icy waters of the 'hidden valley' – Saklikent. This is an opportunity to take photographs of the breath taking scenery.

You will also pass through villages where life has remained, unchanged, for centuries. See how Turkish carpets are made in the traditional way from dying the wool through to weaving the carpet by hand.

Lunch will be provided at the village of Yakapark – where trout swim in pools, shaded by walnut trees.

JEEP SAFARI

This is a fantastic way of seeing local places of interest and the beautiful countryside, all in one day.

There are 3 different safari itineraries for you to choose from:
1. Kalkan-Saklikent Gorge-Tlos-Yakapark-Kalkan.
2. Kalkan-Xantos-Saklikent Gorge-Patara beach-Kalkan.
3. Kalkan-Pinara-Saklikent Gorge-Kalkan.

The whole family will enjoy this exciting day out!

PINARA & LETOON

Remote Pinara is still relatively untouched by tourism, and therefore is a peaceful place to spend some time. The ruins here feature unusual pigeon hole tombs in the acropolis.

Later you can see the remains of the temples dedicated to Leto, Artemis and Apollo at Letoon.

FETHIYE MARKET

Located less than a 1 hour drive away from Kalkan, Fethiye is a picturesque harbour town and an ideal place to spend a morning shopping.

On a Tuesday there is a large open market where you can get some fantastic bargains at a fraction of the cost that they are sold in the shops. The town also has many small shops and boutiques located in the old centre, alongside the larger department type stores in the town. Additionally, Fethiye has a wide selection of shops selling quality gold jewellery and leather.

Lunch is served in the “ghost village” of Kaya – deserted by the Greeks and never reinhabitated. Afterwards you will have time to explore the village before your return transfer to Kalkan.

HORSE RIDING

Even for the totally inexperienced, this horse riding trek is a great way to see some of the local countryside. This is a gentle trek with experienced guides and riders, to ensure that you have the best possible time.

Your ride starts from the village of Patara and follows the flow of the Xanthos River and continues on to the ancient ruins of Patara, via the sand dunes, and finishing off at the ancient theatre.

After your ride you can enjoy some time on the golden sands of Patara beach.

ARYCANDA & ELMALI

Arycanda is one of the fascinating Lycian hidden cities. It was built on a series of terraces climbing a mountain slope, and the views from the ruins are some of the most memorable in Lycia. Elmali is an old Ottoman town where traditional handcrafts still survive. The old Ottoman mosque complex with its library, school and bath are famous. This town will make you travel back to 19th century. Along the drive you will see beautiful countryside including cedar and pine forests.

LYCIAN WALK

This is an organized walking tour to Akdaglar (White Mountains), Sutlegen village and Sinekcibeli observatory.

First we will drive to the mountains in the morning which takes about 45 minutes. Then start to walk from Sinekcibeli to Sutlegen village. It is an easy walk with absolutely fantastic scenery of mountains, nomadic villages and cedar, pine and juniper forests.

The total walk takes about 4-5 hours with picnic lunch and breaks. The walk finishes in Sutlegen village in the tea house garden platform, prior to your drive back to the accommodation.
